Welcome Current and Aspiring Dance Adjudicators
Judging dance competitions requires a very specific skill set, Not only do adjudicators need to be knowledgeable in many forms of dance. We also need to be able to identify and articulate corrections quickly, effectively, and with kindness. It is helpful to view each piece presented as an opportunity to share knowledge and help dancers achieve that next level of technique, showmanship, and movement quality. It is important to have a passion for dance education to set yourself up for success in adjudication work. Other important elements to consider are your ability to multi task, retain many details, and work with others whom you may have just met. We train adjudicators in person and online in order to prepare you for big opportunities in the dance industry.
Training Events
In Person
We travel to many locations throughout the year and can coordinate in person trainings when we are in your area. We also have studios who bring in our technique transformation curriculum training for their students and adjudicator training for the staff at the same event.
Virtual
Individual and/or group appointments can be made for online trainings at any time. This is a great option for ease of flexibility in scheduling and to circumvent travel.
Select Group
Multiple Educators may coordinate to train together in person or virtual. This is often the case with multiple studios coming together in a workshop or convention setting.
Why I offer adjudicator Training Sessions
I share my experience of what works best for me when judging and help judges figure out what works best for them to feel like they can do their best job. Together we can work on ideas for how to add value to critiques and trouble shoot any challenges judges feel faced with and make a plan for navigating those. I’m also a life coach so it’s basically life coaching but very niche to dance adjudicating since I have a passion for both. Mostly I want to help be part of the change in the industry. Judges typically have a desire to do a great job but the way it’s all presented to us when we start out I don’t consider to be great training. I feel like we are kind of just thrown to the wolves to figure it out and then often put in situations like sharing a room, not enough sleep, food, or breaks etc. and I want to help judges not settle for that kind of treatment but to get the better jobs they have to have the best critiques as negotiation.
What to expect from Adjudicator Training.
I provide the kind of critiques I give so my clients have an example of what I strive for and we make sure that is in alignment for what they are looking to provide as a judge as well. And if it’s a good fit then I can help with guidance in as many areas a judge or aspiring judge is interested in. Sometimes it’s with a certain genre or just in general how to find our best words quickly and efficiently for that many hours a day. I offer trainings in person but most of my clients work with me either over the phone or FaceTime/ zoom. Some find it helpful to send me practice audios of them judging dances via you tube and together we go over what they would like to say better and I give suggestions and tell them what is working for them as well. The initial consultation is free and then we go from there to make a plan. Many just do one or two sessions with me to feel better and more confident and get some advice and guidance and others work with me for several sessions to really delve deeper into multiple areas.
